How to Brew
Whether it's your first cup or your hundredth, getting the perfect brew can transform your coffee experience. Whether you prefer French press, drip, or pour-over, explore our expert tips below for achieving coffee perfection every time.
DRIP (STANDARD COFFEE MAKER)
Coffee To Water Ratio : We recommend using 1:16 coffee to water ratio. For instance, for a standard 11oz mug you will want to use 300 grams (10.6oz) of water with 18-19 grams (a little under 4 tablespoons) of coffee
Grind Size : Medium
- For a standard mug size (8oz-10oz) you can start with 1.5 tablespoons (10 grams of coffee per 8 oz mug) or 2 tablespoons (20 grams of coffee per 10 oz mug) of fresh ground coffee.
- If you are grinding at home, we recommend using a medium setting. Once ground, place grinds in a filter, add the corresponding amount of water to the boiler compartment and brew.
FRENCH PRESS
Coffee To Water Ratio : We recommend using 1:12 coffee to water ratio for darker roasts and 1:15 ratio for light to medium roasts. For instance, for a standard 11oz mug you will want to use 300 grams (10.6oz) of water with 20 grams (4 tablespoons) of coffee
Grind Size : Coarse
Instructions :
- Begin by heating your water, you can add a few extra ounces of water.
- As your water boils you can measure and grind your beans.
- Once your water has reached 200 degrees and before you add the grinds, pour a bit of the water into your empty press to heat the glass, swirl for a few seconds and dump the water out.
- Now pour your grinds into your press and add double the amount of water to the amount of grinds. For instance, if you used 20 grams (4 tbsp) of ground coffee you will want to add 40 grams (half cup) of boiled water.
- Stir or swirl your press gently and let your coffee bloom for 30 seconds.
- Add the rest of your water and place the plunger lid on top, do not plunge yet.
- After 4 minutes you can push down the plunger.
POUR OVER
Barista Tip! Use a scale for best results.
Coffee To Water Ratio : We recommend using a 1:15 ratio. For instance, for a standard 11oz mug you will want to use 300 grams (10.6oz) of water with 20 grams (4 tablespoons) of coffee
Grind Size : Medium-Fine
Instructions :
- Begin by heating your water, you can add a few extra ounces of water.
- As your water boils you can measure and grind your beans to a medium-fine consistency.
- Set your filter in your device, if your device does not require paper filters you can skip the next step.
- Once your water has reached 200 degrees and before you add the grinds, pour a bit of the water over the paper filter to rinse off any paper taste. Pour out the water and re-align your filter if it clings to the sides.
- Pour your grinds into the filter compartment, evenly distributing the grinds.
- Add double the amount of water to the amount of grinds you are using. For instance, if you used 20 grams of ground coffee you will want to add 40 grams of boiled water.
- Let sit for 30 seconds then slowly pour half of your remaining water over your grinds. When pouring you will want to slowly move your kettle in a circular motion starting from the center and circling further out, and slowly from out circling slowly back towards the center.
- Allow your brew to sit for at least 45 seconds.
- Pour the remainder of your water over the grinds, again in a slow circular motion moving from the center out and then back towards the center. Allow all the liquid to drip thru your filter into your cup/container.
